Watchmen of the Republic
A Christian fellowship of men. Faith, friendship, radio,
the founding documents, and a truck that turns up when a neighbour needs one.
A Watchpost is a handful of men who meet twice a month, keep GMRS and LoRa mesh
radios that work when the telephones do not, learn the Constitution and the Declaration a
little at a time, and are of use to the people around them. There are no dues, no head
office, and nobody whose permission you need to start one.
The Six Marks
This is the whole of what the name requires. Everything else in this document is a suggestion.
- Open. Any man, eighteen or over, walks in free. No dues at the door.
- Under God. The night opens with Scripture and closes with prayer.
- On the air. The Watchpost keeps a net, and its men are on it between meetings.
- Something learned. No man goes home empty-handed.
- Somebody served. The Watchpost is of visible use to people outside itself.
- No party, no candidate, no campaign. We teach what this Republic was founded on, and leave the rest at the door.
What is in this document
The Field Manual — what this is, what a night looks like, how to start one,
and the four tracks a man advances on: the Book, the Signal, the Craft and the Neighbour.
The Texts — every passage a man learns by heart, in numbered lines: the
Constitution entire, all twenty-seven amendments, the Declaration of Independence,
the Gettysburg Address.
The Charter — the full governing instrument, for a Watchpost that has grown
enough to want rules. You do not need it to begin.
The Sunday Watch: every Watchpost, 8pm local, the same channel, every week.
